We are reflecting on the central role of trust, in the process of deploying R-I (research-intervention). We consider trust as a decisive factor for institutional performance (Thiébault, 2003), whose role is particularly mobilized in times of change, as RI intends to contractually support (Marcel & Bedin, 2018). From a comparison between the two socio‑cultural spheres of France and North America, we highlight the importance of situating and assessing trust as a founding parameter of any participatory research. As illustrative examples, we mobilize the work developed within the 4 UMR-EFTS entry.
